National Garlic Day & A handmade family heirloom

National Garlic Day is one of those fun holidays that I like to celebrate. By celebrate I mean that I eat and enjoy garlic. Show me the person who doesn’t like garlic bread!

This past Thanksgiving, while visiting my mom and step-dad Lars I saw this ceramic garlic keeper in their dining room cabinet hutch (which is ~ mid-century desert modern meets the South of France for context) and learned that my grandmother had made it! My mom said I could have it and I didn’t say no! It’s a very thoughtful and functional piece, truly lovely and I’m very impressed with her talent. The way that she fashioned the lid to fit delicately yet securely is my favorite thing about it. My grandma Georgie passed away in the 1980’s, a long time ago now, and I treasure having this artisanal garlic keeper as a family heirloom.

Bon appétit and cheers to National Garlic Day, 2021 edition!
