Playing Favorites: My Most Loved Image from France

Laura with Bertrand on Baby’s First Birthday

Laura with Bertrand on Baby’s First Birthday

I can’t put my finger on why one particular image from my last trip to France is a buyer favorite, but Bertrand on Baby’s First Birthday also happens to be among my personal favorites of many photos.

It could be that there is a timelessness to Bertrand the sheep and his surrounding landscape…there are no man-made details to suggest whether the picture is from 1918 or 2018, though I’m sure (I hope!) you can guess.

I captured Bertrand on a warm September afternoon in Manneville-la-Raoult, which is a lovely small town in Normandy, about two and a half hours northwest of Paris. My husband, our son and I made the pleasant drive from our hotel near the Panthéon and stayed in a super charming guest cottage surrounded by grazing sheep, fruit trees, flowers, birds and butterflies. It was truly an incredible stay in the French countryside, and I think this photograph conveys a certain pastoral abundance.

If you would like to bring an element of French country living into your world, you can go here to view Bertrand on Baby’s First Birthday in my online store.

Gros bisous!
