It’s a new month today, a fresh canvas (always love a fresh canvas) and I thought I’d style another vignette for a small space. I set up this tribute to Dave, our family kitty cat from the 70’s and early 80’s. Dave had a lot of personality, he was regal like only a cat can be (!), yet playful… he’d put up with things like me dragging him around the house in the bottom of a sheet. I loved Dave so much.

The wood framed photo of me and Dave is from ~ 1978… I was 7 at the time. A few years later I made a clay version of Dave in 7th grade ceramics at Walter Reed Junior High School (Studio City, California). The glazing for his black fur coat didn’t work out so well, but I’m happy that I still have ceramic Dave after moving a lot over the years. One ear is chipped, but that’s not so bad in the scheme of things..

I had fun choosing the books to use in this petite cat shrine, and thought a little more about the extent to which animals find their way into my work. Here’s a blog post about recurring themes in art from April 1, 2020 (another first of the month, hmmm).

Thanks for taking the time to read about my kitty cat Dave Farrell tribute. I hope you’re well and staying safe.
