AirMail Heartbreak: ‘International Freeze Out’
A life experience I’ll never forget is a day in 1991 when I received a dreadful breakup letter. I didn’t know it was coming and felt shattered even though, looking back now, I might have done some reading between the lines.
I was a studious undergraduate at U.C. Berkeley and shared a charming apartment with two other academically motivated roommates on Le Conte Avenue on north side of campus. In many ways I was a more serious person at 20 years old than I am now.
In any event, I took the news very hard. I think my roommate Lorena was surprised by the extent of my tears.
Along the theme of my ‘Abandoned’ body of work, ‘International Freeze Out’ represents a first real heartbreak.
