WHY DO I LIKE photographing botanicals?
Plants, flowers, trees - things that grow in the wild or in a garden - are some of my favorite subjects to work with.
Botanicals are alive & dynamic. They come and go with the seasons which keeps things interesting and makes me feel more connected to life happening right here, right now.
Once I started photographing flowers I developed more awareness of natural rhythms such as of the amount of sunlight at the solstices & how shadows move across a room as the earth tilts over the course of a year.
Another thing that I like about shooting botanicals is I can take my time and indulge in obsessing over the smallest details if I want to. I like to work at a gentler pace than, say, a street photographer or a fashion photographer does.
Over time, with lots of trial and error, I’ve come to learn what is and what isn’t so much in alignment for me. It brings relief to be selective and lean into pursuing my strengths.
