WHY DO I LIKE photographing botanicals? 

Plants, flowers, trees - things that grow in the wild or in a garden - are some of my favorite subjects to work with.

Botanicals are alive & dynamic. They come and go with the seasons which keeps things interesting and makes me feel more connected to life happening right here, right now.

Once I started photographing flowers I developed more awareness of natural rhythms such as of the amount of sunlight at the solstices & how shadows move across a room as the earth tilts.

Another thing that I like about shooting botanicals is I can take my time and indulge in obsessing over the smallest details if I want to. I like to work at a calmer pace than, say, a street photographer or a fashion photographer will operate.

With experience, including lots of trial + error, we learn these things about ourselves and it’s gratifying.
