Six Sheep & Nine(ish) Trees Near Loch Lomond

‘Six Sheep Near Loch Lomond’ by Laura Farrell, February 2022

During my trip to Scotland this month I’ve been very keen to take photos of sheep in their habitats, doing their thing, whatever that might be in the winter when snow covers grasses. I’ve had the pleasure of staying in a charming cottage here in Saint Monans on the Fife Coast where seabirds are the main wildlife a person encounters, as is likely the case in all fishing villages (aside from the fishes, naturally).

Today I did a return drive all the way from Oban on the western shore of Scotland. Due to a severe winter weather advisory brought by storm Dudley, it was best to stick to the the southern roads through the Scottish Highlands and there I had the chance to see some lovely sheep in open fields. I would have stopped on the side of the road every five minutes if I’d had more time.
Here is a final image from an area on the eastern edge of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. If you haven’t yet visited the Scottish Highlands I suggest you do so in this lifetime if at all possible - the scenery is simply stunning, even in this season of cold weather and heavy winter skies.
I’ll have more photos to post on the blog in coming weeks, but in the meantime, here is a video of me doing a little happy dance which I’m calling The Wooly Whirl, at what I’d anticipated would become a special photograph: a handful of sheep with healthy, beige coats, a charming stone wall and bare trees that lent a beautiful atmosphere.
