Joanna Gaines Knows my Childhood!

Ok, not really… But, somehow Joanna Gaines of Magnolia Home managed to put two of my family’s exact sayings on her stoneware mugs…. So I can’t help but wonder, what are the chances?

Like most teenagers, I was a sleepy head in the mornings in junior high and high school and would try anything I could to get even a few more minutes of sleep.  My parents would take turns coming to my bedroom with their respective wake up calls.  My mom would say, “Rise and shine” in a sing-song voice. And my dad would say, “Up and at ‘em” in a less sing-song-y tone (for the longest time I thought he was saying Up and Adam and I had no idea who this Adam person was or why it might be biblical) (as it happens, my husband’s name is Adam, but that’s neither here nor there).  My parents used their two expressions pretty much without fail.  So when I saw these Hearth and Hand Magnolia Table mugs at Target while out Christmas shopping, I was a little bit awe struck and sentimental.

I bought two of each, of course! One set to keep, and a RISE & SHINE to send to my mom, and an UP AND AT ‘EM mug to send to my dad. Good thing they’re both coffee drinkers.
