From generic to artful facewear

Me with my new designer face mask, August 2020

As long as we’re living in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic and need to wear masks when going out and about, I figured it was time to upgrade from the generic blue, surgical style masks (as much as I like blue) and get something washable & reusable. I had ordered a few masks from The Gap but not only are they a poor fit on me, they’re also pretty boring.

Then recently I heard about Susan Kistler on a podcast. Susan makes designer face masks from unique fabrics that she’s collected over the years. I looked up her Etsy shop (RockyLovesLuLu) and ordered this beautiful tiger print mask called ‘Tiger Fly Blue‘. It is expertly made and has comfortable elastic straps. I especially like that there is a subtle metallic detail, it’s festive, but not over the top.

I feel happy wearing a mask that has a bit of personality ~and~ is blue ~and~ has tigers. A “big cat” theme also aligns with my being drawn to animals… something that didn’t occur to me until after I first wore it (funny how that happens). I have an Animal & Birds section in my online store, check it out if you haven’t yet.

Thanks for stopping by.
